Tears and Raindrops, Chapter 1

Hi people! Izzypopcorn here, but you can call me Izzy. Sew, today I’m going to be sharing chapter one of my Dramione fanfic, Tears and Raindrops. Please don’t judge! I only lowkey ship Dramione. Obviously, Hermione and Ron are OTP. DO NOT READ THIS if you have not read the entire Harry Potter series; it may contain spoilers. Without further ado, let me introduce Tears and Raindrops, Chapter 1, from Draco’s perspective.

Chapter 1: Draco

Was that… crying? I wondered as I trudged down the dungeon corridor to retrieve my forgotten potions book. I still couldn’t believe I’d forgotten it on my first day back at school for my “eighth year.” It most definitely was crying, I concluded as I drew nearer to the open doorway. I almost couldn’t believe what I saw.

There, sitting on one of the tables with her head in her hands, tears streaming down her face, was Granger. I inhaled sharply and took a step back, not wanting to disturb her, but she noticed anyway and turned around, swiping furiously at her eyes.

“Yes?” She glared at me ferociously. “Tell the whole school, why don’t you? I’m sure you love seeing me in tears.” Granger snorted. “Who am I kidding? Of course you love it!” I fidgeted uncomfortably and looked at the cold stone floor. It was a more welcoming sight than Granger’s fiery brown eyes.

“I forgot my potions book,” I mumbled to the floor, striding over to it and tucking it under one arm. Then, after a moment of gathering his courage, I met Granger’s eyes. Her dark skin, even darker in the dim light, was streaked with tears, and the anger in her eyes had softened ever so slightly. I took a deep breath and took the plunge. “I’m sorry,” I whispered.

“Excuse me?” This was the first time I had ever seen Granger look confused in many years.

“I said, I’m sorry for how horrible I was these past seven years. I… I was a monster. So I’m really sorry. And, if you ever need to talk to someone, I’m a really good listener,” I responded carefully. For a moment, Granger still looked furious and confused, and my heart plummeted. Then, her resistance seemed to crumble, and she burst into tears. I wanted to comfort her, but I didn’t think I had the right. She could be crying over a person killed by someone I knew. Or a person my father had killed. However, I did go sit lightly on the table across from her. After a minute of silence except for her sobs, Granger began to talk.

“Ron and I broke up,” she mumbled, resting her bushy head on her knees.

“Bloody heck, Granger. Seriously ?” I gasped, shocked. A tear leaked from the cage Granger had formed with her body.

“We broke up. Jeez, Malfoy. How many times do you want me to say it?” She snapped, her voice muffled by her knees.

“Sorry. I’m just surprised.” I replied sheepishly.

“Me too,” Granger sighed. There was a moment of silence as we sat, both thinking hard.

“Do you… want to talk about it?” I asked nervously, watching her out of the corner of my eye.

“I…” she trailed off, lifting her head, and her warm brown eyes found my piercing gray ones. We both blushed and looked away. Granger shrugged. “Why not? One more crazy thing to add to my list.”

“Spill,” I smiled a little at her, shocked by my own behavior as I held up an imaginary quill. Granger let out a giggle so small I was sure had imagined it, but when I gazed upon her blushing face, I knew I hadn’t. I smirked a little as Granger began to talk, slightly embarrassed and still heartbroken.

“I don’t know if you noticed, but neither Harry nor Ron came back to finish their education.” I nodded along as Granger continued. “I… I’m sorry, I…” she clutched her chest, looking stricken as more tears streamed down her face. “I don’t think I can talk about this.” We both slumped where they sat. Suddenly, Granger’s face lit up with the thrill of an idea. “I don’t have to tell you. I’ll show you!” She grinned, then her face fell. “But where will we ever find one? There’s one in the head office, but McGonagall will never let us use it.” Now I knew what Weasley meant by Granger’s cryptic thinking.

“What are you talking about?” As the words left my mouth, I noticed how she had said us. It made me feel warm inside, which made me feel guilty, which made me feel guilty for feeling guilty. Granger sighed exasperatedly and rolled her eyes at me.

“A Pensieve, of course! Honestly, I thought it was obvious,” she responded in a condescending tone of voice.

“Oh.” A shock went up my arms. “I have one.” Now it was Granger’s turn to look shocked. Then a smile spread across her face.

“What are we waiting for? Let’s go!” She beamed, then seemed to realize what she was doing and rearranged her features into an expression of polite interest. I smirked at her.

“You seem unusually excited… considering the Pensieve is in my dormitory,” I smirked. “The dormitory inhabited only by me.” Granger sat there for a few seconds before this registered with her. Then she paled noticeably and her jaw dropped.

“Seriously?” Granger gaped. I nodded in response. She started fanning her face. “I can’t do this. My reputation is at stake! If anyone saw us going into your room and coming out a bit later…” Granger shuddered at the thought. I smirked again.

“You wish you could be caught in a secret relationship with me,” I taunted, then stopped myself gently, reminding myself that Granger and I weren’t friends. Granger blushed and rolled her eyes at my words. “Aw, come on, Granger. You need to show someone! Don’t you always tell Potter not to keep his feelings bottled up inside?” Grudgingly, she nodded and hopped down from her table.

“Okay, I’ll do it. On one condition…”

I walked out of the potions room a minute later, whistling, with my potions book tucked under one arm. I appeared to be alone.

“Ah, the wonders of Disillusionment Charms,” I sighed as I walked towards the Slytherin common room, an invisible Granger at my side.

    1. I’ve actually already written up to Part 8. I just feel like three posts in one day would be too much, much less seven. Thanks! I’ll publish more soon!
